What Is Cooking Team Building?

Cooking team building brings your team into a kitchen — or a pop-up cooking station — where they collaborate under time pressure to prepare dishes, compete in culinary challenges, and share a meal together. It's one of the most naturally inclusive team activities: everyone eats, and everyone can contribute regardless of fitness level or physical ability.

At Get Out Events, our cooking team building programmes are hosted by professional chefs at equipped kitchen venues across Singapore. We handle everything — ingredients, equipment, facilitation, and cleanup. Designed for groups of 20 to 150 participants.

How Our Cooking Team Building Works

  1. Team Formation & Briefing — Teams of 4–6 are assigned cooking stations. Our host chef introduces the challenge — a mystery box cook-off, a themed menu competition, or a collaborative feast.
  2. Guided Cooking Challenge — Teams plan their menu, delegate roles (prep, cook, plate, present), and execute under a time limit. Station chefs provide guidance while observing team dynamics.
  3. Judging & Presentation — Teams plate and present their dishes. Judges score on taste, presentation, teamwork, and creativity.
  4. Shared Meal — The best part. Everyone sits down to eat what they've cooked. The shared meal creates a natural bonding moment that extends the team building beyond the activity.

What to Expect: Step-by-Step Session Flow

Here's what your team will experience from arrival to the final bite:

  1. Arrival & Kitchen Tour (15 min) — Teams are welcomed into the kitchen space and given a quick orientation — where everything is, safety rules, and the day's format. Aprons on, excitement up.
  2. Chef Briefing & Team Roles (15 min) — The head chef introduces the challenge brief. Teams have 10 minutes to assign roles: head chef, sous chef, plating lead, and presenter. Strategy starts now.
  3. Cooking Begins (60–90 min) — Stations come alive. Our chefs circulate between teams — available to help but never doing the work for anyone. Team dynamics emerge quickly: who leads under pressure, who's unexpectedly skilled at knife work, who takes over plating.
  4. Plating & Presentation (15 min) — Teams plate their dishes and prepare a 2-minute pitch to the judging panel. The presentation format encourages storytelling — teams explain their culinary choices, their process, and what went wrong (and right).
  5. Judging (20 min) — A panel of judges (your own senior leaders and our head chef) scores each dish on taste, presentation, creativity, and teamwork. Lively, entertaining, occasionally contentious.
  6. Shared Meal & Awards (30–45 min) — All dishes are served as a shared spread. The winning team is announced. Everyone eats, talks, and the bonding continues naturally over food.

Cooking Challenge Formats

  • Mystery Box Challenge — Teams receive surprise ingredients and must create a dish within 90 minutes. Tests creativity and adaptability.
  • Around the World — Each team is assigned a different cuisine — Thai, Japanese, Italian, Indian. Teams learn new techniques and present their dishes to the group.
  • MasterChef Competition — Full competitive format with elimination rounds, tasting panels, and a grand finale. High energy and highly memorable.
  • Team Feast — Collaborative rather than competitive. The entire group works together to prepare a multi-course meal. Great for building cross-department connections.
  • Bake-Off Challenge — Pastry and baking focused. Teams compete to create the best-looking and best-tasting dessert. Popular for smaller groups and office-based events.

Venue & Kitchen Options

We work with a curated network of kitchen venues across Singapore, and we can also set up pop-up cooking stations at your preferred event space.

  • Professional training kitchens — Fully equipped with commercial appliances, worktops, and plating stations. Ideal for serious cook-off formats. Available in Tanjong Pagar, Buona Vista, and Novena.
  • Hotel kitchen facilities — Several Singaporean hotels offer culinary team building packages using their in-house kitchens. Great for retreat formats.
  • Pop-up cooking stations at your venue — We set up mobile induction cooking stations at your office, hotel ballroom, or event space. Suited to the Team Feast and Bake-Off formats. No permanent kitchen needed.
  • Outdoor BBQ format — For larger groups outdoors, we convert the cooking challenge into a competitive BBQ format. Teams compete across fire stations with the same judging structure.

Group Size Guide

Cooking team building is highly flexible. Here's how we size programmes:

  • 20–50 pax — One cohort in a single kitchen space. Maximum chef contact time and personal coaching. Best for senior leadership teams and focused workshops.
  • 50–100 pax — Multiple stations running simultaneously in one kitchen or across split spaces. Two or three chef facilitators. Full competition format with live judging.
  • 100–150 pax — Pop-up station format or large hotel kitchen facility. Full MC, live scoreboard, and multi-stage competition. The Team Feast format also works well at this scale.
