What Is Charity Team Building?
Charity team building (also called CSR team building) combines team activities with a real social impact outcome. Teams build bicycles for underprivileged children, assemble care packs for elderly residents, or construct school supply kits for donation — all while developing collaboration, communication, and a sense of shared purpose.
At Get Out Events, we partner with established Singapore charities to ensure every item your team builds goes to people who genuinely need it. Programmes for 20 to 200 participants. Every charity we work with is a registered organisation, and donation receipts are provided where applicable for your company's ESG documentation.
Since 2012, we've facilitated charity team building for hundreds of Singapore organisations — government agencies, multinational corporations, financial institutions, and SMEs. The format works because it satisfies something that most team building doesn't: the need for genuine meaning. When your team builds a bicycle that a child will ride to school, the experience stays with them.
Charity Team Building Formats
- Build-A-Bike — Teams assemble bicycles from parts, competing on speed and quality. Completed bikes are donated to children from low-income families. An emotional reveal when the recipients receive their bikes.
- Care Pack Assembly — Teams create customised care packages for elderly residents, migrant workers, or families in need. Includes personal letters, essential items, and handmade touches.
- School Supply Kits — Teams assemble backpacks filled with school supplies for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Each kit is personalised with encouraging notes.
- Community Makeover — Teams repaint, refurbish, or beautify a community space — a children's home, elderly care centre, or community garden.
- Toy Workshop — Teams build wooden toys, puzzles, or educational games for donation to children's charities. Combines creativity with craftsmanship.
Each format can be customised to match your company's CSR focus area — whether that's education, elderly care, environmental sustainability, or migrant worker support. We'll recommend the right format based on your group size, logistics, and values priorities.
How It Works: Step by Step
- Briefing & Charity Introduction (20 min) — Our facilitator introduces the charity partner and the people your team will be helping. Video content, charity representative speakers, and real stories from beneficiaries are incorporated where available. This context transforms the activity from task to mission — and it matters more than most clients expect.
- Team Challenges (30 min) — Before building, teams complete collaborative challenges to earn materials, tools, or bonus items. Challenges are designed to require genuine teamwork — physical coordination, strategic planning, and communication under pressure. This competitive element keeps energy high and ensures everyone is warmed up for the build phase.
- Build Phase (45–60 min) — Teams assemble their items with guidance from facilitators. Quality checks ensure every item meets standards for donation. Facilitators observe team dynamics throughout — this data feeds into the debrief.
- Quality Inspection & Completion (15 min) — Each item goes through a quality check before being formally "donated." Teams take pride in this — it reinforces craftsmanship and accountability. Items that don't pass inspection are corrected, not discarded.
- Presentation & Handover (20–30 min) — Where possible, charity representatives receive the items in person. When recipients are present (e.g., Build-A-Bike), it's an emotional highlight that clients consistently describe as one of the most memorable corporate moments their team has shared.
- Reflection & Debrief (20 min) — A facilitated debrief connects the CSR experience to your company's values and purpose. Teams articulate what they observed in each other, what the experience meant, and what they're taking back to the workplace.
Why Charity Team Building Matters
- Purpose-driven — the activity has real impact beyond the team building outcome
- Values alignment — demonstrates your company's commitment to social responsibility
- Emotional depth — charity activities create more lasting memories than recreational ones
- Employee engagement — 93% of employees say CSR activities increase their pride in their company (Deloitte)
- ESG reporting — documented charity team building contributes to your company's ESG narrative
- Intergenerational participation — inclusive for all ages and physical abilities; no fitness required
- Millennial and Gen Z resonance — younger employees consistently rate purpose-driven activities higher than recreational alternatives
Charity team building doesn't just benefit the community — it benefits your organisation. Teams that participate in meaningful shared experiences show measurably higher collaboration scores and report stronger connections to company values. The effect lasts weeks, not hours.
Venue and Format Options
Charity team building is one of the most venue-flexible formats we offer. Here's how different settings work:
- Hotel Ballrooms — The most common setup for larger groups. We transform ballroom spaces into production stations — each team has a dedicated table, materials, and facilitator. Setup typically takes 2–3 hours and we handle everything before your team arrives.
- Conference Centres — Build-A-Bike and care pack assembly work well in larger conference foyers or breakout spaces. We've produced charity events at Suntec City, Marina Bay Sands, and Expo.
- Office Buildings — For care pack assembly and school supply kits, a large office floor or canteen can work well for groups up to 80 pax. We manage space planning and logistics.
- Community Sites — Community Makeover programmes take place at the beneficiary location — a children's home, community centre, or garden. Transport coordination for participants is included in the planning scope.
- Outdoor Venues — Toy workshops and certain build formats work well in covered outdoor spaces, parks, and open-air venues. Singapore's weather is managed through tent setups and venue selection.
All venue logistics are managed by Get Out Events. We handle charity partner coordination, material procurement, setup, and teardown. Your team shows up and does the meaningful work.
Group Size Guide
Charity team building scales well across a wide range of group sizes. Here's how we configure different formats:
- 20–50 pax — Care pack assembly or school supply kits work best. Single-format, high engagement, meaningful impact. Ideal for department CSR days or small company events.
- 50–100 pax — Build-A-Bike or care packs with competitive team challenges. Multiple production stations running simultaneously. We assign dedicated facilitators per station.
- 100–150 pax — Multi-format: morning competitive challenges, afternoon charity build, and a shared handover ceremony. Our most popular format for annual company D&Ds with a CSR component.
- 150–200 pax — Full charity production day. Multiple formats running in parallel (e.g., bike build + care packs + toy workshop), combined into a single large donation ceremony. Requires a dedicated programme manager and 3–4 facilitators.
For groups with participants of varying physical ability, we always have at least two format tracks — one active (e.g., bike assembly) and one seated (e.g., care pack personalisation) — so everyone can contribute meaningfully.

Charity Team Building vs. Recreational Team Building
Not every event needs to be charity-focused. But when it's right, it's unmistakably better. Here's when to choose charity team building over recreational alternatives:
- Choose charity team building when: your company has active CSR commitments, your team has done recreational activities multiple times and feedback scores are plateauing, you want to align the event with your company's values narrative, or ESG documentation matters for your annual report.
- Combine with recreational activities when: you have a full day and want high energy alongside meaningful impact. We regularly run morning charity builds followed by afternoon Amazing Race or sports challenges.
- Consider alternatives when: your primary objective is high-energy competition or physical challenge — for those goals, formats like Amazing Race or Sports Day may deliver better results.
Our team will give you an honest recommendation during the consultation. We'd rather match you to the right format than upsell you to the wrong one. Browse all activities or see our team building Singapore overview to compare options.
Trusted by Leading Organisations
"When the children from the charity walked in and saw the bicycles our team had built — I've never seen 150 adults cry at a corporate event. It was the most meaningful team building we've ever done."
— CSR Director, Banking Group (150 pax)
Frequently Asked Questions
- How do you ensure items actually reach beneficiaries?
- We coordinate directly with registered Singapore charities — not intermediaries. Post-event, we provide photo documentation of the handover to your event contact. For Build-A-Bike, we can arrange for beneficiary children to receive bikes at the event itself. Where items are delivered separately, you receive photographic confirmation within 5 business days.
- Can we choose our own charity partner?
- Yes. If your company already has a preferred charity relationship, we work with them. We just need to confirm the format is operationally feasible with their organisation. Alternatively, we match you from our network of established Singapore charity partners.
- Is this suitable for mixed-ability groups?
- Fully inclusive. Every charity programme has seated participation options. We've run events with participants aged 18 to 70, with wheelchair users, and with team members with physical limitations — all participating meaningfully alongside their colleagues.
- What ESG documentation do you provide?
- We provide: participant count, items donated (with photos), charity partner details (registration number, beneficiary description), and a brief impact summary. This is sufficient for most annual report CSR sections. Tax-deductible receipts are issued where the charity partner is an approved IPC.
